President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on Saturday urged the candidates running under the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) to stick to the principles and aspirations of the party and asked them to ensure the integrity of the election next year despite the challenges.
“It is my hope that all of you will stand by the PDP-Laban’s principles and aspirations throughout the campaign period, and on election day, and beyond,” President Duterte said in a speech during the oath-taking of new party members and proclamation of local PDP-Laban candidates at the Iligan Medical Center College in Iligan City.
“I urge you to ensure the integrity of the elections for your respective positions, despite the challenges that you may face.”
President Duterte expressed optimism that PDP-Laban candidates have the competence, integrity, and dedication to serve the people. He reminded them that their victory would not only for them, but more importantly, for the entire nation.
“As a political party, we should continue to put the welfare and progress of our country and people on top of our priorities,” he told the party’s members.
“Our mission is and will always be to improve the quality of life of the Filipinos. As you run for public office, take this to heart, even after the election period and regardless of the election results,” he added.
And even with daunting situations, the President encouraged them not to lose faith in the party, stressing although they went through difficult times, “yet we are still here and standing”.
The PDP was officially launched on February 6, 1982, during its founding convention in Cebu City. On July 1982, Laban party coalesced with PDP, making PDP-Laban a national party. PND
