Interview

Interview with Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella by Ivan Mayrina (Unang Hirit / GMA 7)

recording start…

USEC. ABELLA:                              …the whole day to become a National Day of Protest para lahat ng may hinaing. In other word ang ano…ang Presidente is very very open and contrary to what being spread or the perception eh ano po… in fact, it is not a question of the one man rule. The President is firm, on the other hands we allows discourse, he allowed po iyong mga—iyong iba-ibang—iba-ibang opinion and—I think he’s quite intrusive—I believe he’s quite intrusive on all this lines.

So balikan po natin iyon sinabi nanadya, I think it’s just a question perception ‘no, expression of perception. Pero sa totoo lang po, he is the best; the President has allowed for a number for a number of these things.

IVAN MAYRINA:                           Ang Pangulo po, ano naman po ang magiging aktibidad niya ngayong Martial Anniversary?

USEC. ABELLA:                              Sabi niya sasali din daw siya, iproprotesta niya ang kanyang suweldo. (laughs) Pero…hindi ko pa po ano—right now ano po cleared po ano—iyong kanyang…cleared of officials meetings pero I’m sure he’s going to busy.

IVAN MAYRINA:                           Sir, on the point on a—ito pong pinag-uusapan nitong nakaraan araw o linggo itong pagdideklara daw ng nationwide martial law. Ano na ho bang katutuhanan dito USec.?

USEC. ABELLA:                              Again and again, inulit niya hindi iyan ang patutunguan natin. Only…ang sinabi lang iyong katulad nung ano… yung sinabi na is allowing nga for the protest, huwag lang malaglag sa ano—huwag sa violence and the destruction of property, in which case the responsible firm. Pero kung sinasasabi pinaplano iyong Martial Law, hindi po. In fact simula’t sapul po the President has tried to reach out to just about everybody, left to right. And again he started out with having a rainbow Cabinet and aah…including left, including right, top bottom.

So, sa simula’t sapul po ang President been very very inclusive and one thing, in his line, a comfortable life for all. In other words, damang dama po ng Presidente  ang hinaing ng tao and again and again, especially he is against sa ano… iyong corruptions, crime and iyong pag-aabuso.

IVAN MAYRINA:                           Usec., on another point. Nakita po si Ms Honeylet  Avancena sa New York. Is she a part of the official delegations?

USEC. ABELLA:                              Sir, I don’t have an official statement regarding that. Pero alam ko po, sa pagkakaalam ko lang po, ay may dumating na imbitasyon para sa kanyang kung nasaan the First Lady—may invitation yata siya mula sa First Lady of the United States, FLOTUS.

IVAN MAYRINA:                           So we cannot confirm if she is part of the delegation to the UN General Assembly?

USEC. ABELLA:                              Ang masasabi po she was—as far as I know—we can confirm this later, just to be sure, hinihintay ko lang po. It’s just—apparently mayroon siyang invitation.

IVAN MAYRINA:                           Still another point USec. Sabi ninyo pong bahagi lamang ng game plan ng Pangulo yung paglabas ng inimbento daw niya na ano ng account number ni Sen. Trillanes. Paki paliwanag nga po, anong…what game plan was the President talking about?

USEC. ABELLA:                              Hindi po privy—hindi po ako ano. I’m not privy to this game plans but ang masasabi ko po, the President knows whereof he speaks at iyon po… apparently kasama sa kanya mga strategies regarding this matter.

IVAN MAYRINA:                           So the Palace maintains na mayroon po talagang mga accounts si Sen. Trillanes?

USEC. ABELLA:                              Unless proven otherwise, but as far as I know – eto po, this is where I am coming from ‘no as a Spokesperson – The President would only speak kung mayroon po talagang siyang substantial evidence at mayroon po siyang malinaw na dahilan.

IVAN MAYRINA:                           Ito nga po ho, following that the admission by the President na inimbento lang daw po niya, iyong reaction po ng marami din ano na parang nakakaapekto ito sa krebilidad ng Pangulo. Even Senator Lacson, in particular, is saying that this cast doubt on his other allegations. Ano hong kumento ninyo dito, USec.?

USEC. ABELLA:                                              Sir, ang masasabi ko is this ‘no, the fact that he is very transparent about it, the fact that he is very out-front about his moves and action tells us that the President can—The President is quite credible in the sense that he is extremely transparent in making us understand where he is coming from. So iyong na po ang masasabi ko. The people, as far as I know the people continue to trust him and in terms of casting doubt…in terms of casting doubt na sinasabi ninyo, ang akin naman – the people see him from a long view, not just on particular actions. So in other words nakita ng mga tao na ano and as far as we see eh ano—ang ano po niyon epekto ng kanyang mga pakikipag…iyong kanyang mga actions and decisions have so far benefitted the nation in terms of economic, in terms of respect, in terms of putting us in the middle of…restoring influence to us and in fact, as many people could see, he has restored the Filipino dignity.

IVAN MAYRINA:                                           Undersecretary, thank you sir Good Morning and thank you for joining us. Si Presidential Spokesman Usec. Ernesto Abella.
