|NBI does a good job in apprehending Comelec hackers, says Malacanang|
|The public must wait until the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) completes its investigation on the leak of Comelec voters’ data amid calls to charge the poll body for negligence, the Palace said on Saturday.
It was reported that there were calls for the Department of Justice to file a case against the Comelec for failing to protect voters’ data after hackers breached its website.
“I’m not familiar with the exact complaint kung sino ang naghain ng complaint na ito o kung suggestion lang ito o opinyon. Ang malinaw nakikita natin na epektibo ang aksyon ng NBI,” Undersecretary Manuel Quezon III of the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office, said.
One the security measures is tightening the access for data of Comelec’s precinct finder, he said noting Comelec might also no longer use its website anymore.
With regards to issues on election-related violence, Quezon said the Philippine National Police is working to prevent attacks on candidates and maintain order.
Among the measures being implemented by the DILG is the prevention of the proliferation of loose firearms. The PNP has been carrying out “Oplan Katok” to ensure that only those who registered their guns could own such a weapon, he said.
The Palace official said that it can be observe that there is a dramatic decline in the number of bank robberies and kidnapping in the country before an election compared in the past elections because of government’s anti-crime initiatives. PND (as)
